Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your information.

Effective date: 1 June 2025

01Overview

StreetCredit (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates a credit infrastructure platform for African SME lenders. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you visit our website, submit an application, or otherwise interact with our services.

By using our services you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

02Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Identity & contact data — name, job title, organisation name, email address, phone number, and country of operation submitted via our cohort application or contact forms.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, time zone, operating system, and pages visited, collected automatically when you browse our website.
  • Financial & operational data — information about your lending institution, loan book size, and data sources you currently use, provided voluntarily during onboarding.
  • Communications data — correspondence you send us by email or through forms on this site.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of 18.

03How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Evaluate and process cohort applications and partnerships.
  • Communicate with you about your application status and our services.
  • Improve, personalise, and expand our platform and offerings.
  • Understand usage patterns and measure the effectiveness of our communications.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
  • Prevent fraud and ensure the security of our systems.

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which it was collected, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason compatible with the original purpose.

04Legal Basis for Processing

Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on the following:

  • Consent — where you have given clear consent for us to process your data for a specific purpose.
  • Contract — where processing is necessary to perform a contract with you or to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • Legitimate interests — where processing is necessary for our legitimate business interests and those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where processing is necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory requirement.

05Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your data with:

  • Service providers — trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you (e.g. cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics), subject to confidentiality agreements.
  • Investor and grant partners — where you have consented or where required to fulfil our obligations under the Arbitrum Foundation grant programme.
  • Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of StreetCredit, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our assets, subject to the acquirer honouring this policy.

06Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. Application data submitted through our cohort form is retained for a maximum of 24 months from the date of submission unless a contractual relationship is established, in which case standard commercial retention periods apply.

Technical and analytics data is retained for up to 12 months. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at legal@streetcredit.africa.

07Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request erasure of your personal data.
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your data.
  • Request portability of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@streetcredit.africa. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request.

08Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to monitor activity on our website and store certain information. Cookies are small data files placed on your device. We use them to understand how visitors interact with our site and to improve the user experience.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, some portions of our website may not function correctly. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

09Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.

No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
